Coon Rapids and Blaine were among the teams to compete at the state competitive cheerleading competition sanctioned by the Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association (MCCA) at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul Jan. 28.
The Cardinals competed in the Division 1 Medium Varsity Division, while Blaine competed in the Small Non-Tumbling Division. Neither placed in their respective categories as Roseville varsity won the Grand Champion award.
Coon Rapids and Blaine will head to the UCA Nationals in Florida in early February.
?The girls have a countdown as to how many days, minute and seconds until they get to leave,? Cardinals coach Jaclyn Schuldt said.
Coon Rapids put together a record-setting competition season by winning six of 10 competitions entered. Tournament titles included the Panther Invitational at Lakeville North, Jaguar Cheer Jam at Bloomington Jefferson, Candy Cane Classic at Champlin Park, Winter Classic at White Bear Lake (first place and grand champions), Winterfest at DeLaSalle and Eagle Extravaganza at Totino-Grace.
Blaine turned in five first-place finishes, including a championship title at the UCA regionals event in Des Moines, Iowa, Dec. 10.
